Wifi Antenna latest

I bought an Alfa UBDo-nt5 USB wifi antenna several years ago. I've kicked it around enough that I think I better get a spare before this one dies. Knowing how quickly wifi technology changes, I thought I'd check CF for the best value wifi USB antenna. It was a little surreal but very cool sitting at anchor in front of a palapa with internet, Skyping Phoenix from the coast of Oaxaca using a $40 piece of equipment.

Re: Wifi Antenna latest

I am using a Ubiquiti Bullet with good results. I have it connected to an Asus Travel router (ASUS WL-330N3G 6-in-1 Wireless-N Mobile Router, world's smallest multi-role device) all running on 12 volt power. Uses very little juice. This gives me a boat wide wifi network for all the phones and computers/tablets. I can even pick up the router at the Tiki Bar 100 yards away from the boat. I also have a Ubiquiti Nanostation M which is supposed to pick up weaker signals from farther away. The Bullet beats it hands down. I have the Titanium version of the Bullet for supposed greater weather protection, but I don't think it is really worth the extra money except under extreme conditions. Very easy setup. Lots of information on the net. No USB wires to worry with.

I also have the bullet, hooked up to a netgear router. Works great. I can pick up wireless from a few miles and the router works well away from the boat. Antenna is mounted on my masthead.

Re: Wifi Antenna latest

I am using one of Alpha's latest, the AWUS036NHR.
1.5W , good sensitivity, worked great for me out of the box. Will upgrade to an exterior antenna with a bit more gain, but so far really satisfied
