The NMEA press release of 2 years ago promised us:

How's it all going then? Seems all a bit IPv6-over-tumbleweed....

Well I do wonder if what we have is a long-standing tea cartel who have realised that all the cool kids are drinking booze these days and an old bootlegger (cisco in this rather tortured metaphor) has steered them in the direction of a few firkins of the notorious Old Mucky Weasel for their first brewery-based event which has turned out to be a little bit much for some of the participants...

Quite surprised that there's so little interest in this: It's got everything. A whole Internet Of Things angle, the inevitable IT project management non-delivery angle, IPv6, evil antediluvian cartels vs. Open Source freetard anarchists...what's not to like?

Disappointed that no-one in the know has provided some insight into the particular challenges being faced: I know that representatives of some of the smaller and more innovative manufacturers occasionally contribute to this forum.

I think IPv4 has been a challenge for the marine electronics industry and seems to have been approached in recent years as...well..marine electronics rather than computer networking. Lack of security and questionable implementations are testament to that. IPv6 is perfect for OneNet but was that idea cisco's suggestion which didn't take into account the competencies of the other participants? And how mature are the embedded IPv6 stacks?
