Simrad NSS8 plotter not displaying time

Hi all ....
Have a Simrad NSS8 chart plotter which recently stopped displaying the time along the top line (instument bar).
All I get is dashes.
All other info is there as normal (SOG, Depth)
If I go into settings/time the time is there and correct.
I can't find a way to change it and assume it is downloaded through the GPS and is not user setable.

How do i get it back ?????

There is a similar discussion on the SBO web site. The cause was associated with the recent roll-over. The initial fix was the latest updates from Simrad.

No don't try that. The latest update ended up breaking location fix after the roll-over. Many have reverted back to an old update.

Simrad are supposedly working on the problem. Just have bear with it for now, or sell it and get a better MFD. Can't say i'm partial to my NSS8

There seems to have been a further update with people reporting that it is OK,
or am I mistaken ?

There was an update, that I recall, failed during the roll-over. Simrad made another update after the roll-over that worked. At least that is what the thread on SBO indicated. Check the last few posts in that thread and you will see that the OP did in fact correct the problem with the newest (post 4/6) update. If you need to contact the OP over there let me know. I am a Mod there and can arrange it.

I have not heard anything definitive about a final fix for this issue. I have just now sent a message to Simrad/Navico about this issue.


Being on the move in a boat, I may have missed something very recent. At the same time, my ability to download a sizeable patch is restricted to my being located somewhere that I have a fast internet connection. Not always possible.


I am equally upset that the manufacturer has made no attempt (that I am aware of) to contact the owners of affected equipment.


As much as we now depend on our electronic gadgets (and don't get me started on THAT topic), the silence on the part of Navico is unacceptable.


I am not likely to purchase anything further from B&G, Simrad or Lowrance.

WTF are they playing at.

I signed up to their email that said they'd notify me when a new update was available. I've not had anything. If there is a new update it must have only come out in the past week.

Can someone please share the link for the update. I don't see NSS listed in the link below, only NSS Evo2 and Evo3.

Yeah, I see they're blaming the satellites: "The issue is caused by changes in the GPS Satellite constellation." That's a truly disingenuous excuse. Software developer weasel words.

Nope. The rollover of the epoch is a well known occurrence that happens every 19.7 years.

I have a pre-evo NSS 12. Had the 'no time' problem back in NOV '18 that was solved in JAN '19. Also had the gps roll-over loss of navigation data. SIMRAD notification email arrived at 1054Z on the 10th announcing they have posted V3 Rev 4 .... installed, works fine.

Follow the usual path to the update, dated 9 April
SIMRAD home page (www.simrad-yachting.com) > Help & Support > Manual & Software Updates > Select NSS from the drop down > Update is at the bottom.

Latest firmware update worked for me. I called Simrad after reading a number of these posts. I was told the updated firmware (NSS-3.0-46.2.24-28289-r4-Standard-4.upd) should solve my GPS Fix (time issue was resolved by r2 version). Installed, worked first time. Sometimes good help is only a phone call away. I was certainly appreciative of the Simrad folks here in Australia.

The last update from Simrad ( rev 4) solved the time display issue and the GPS location issue on my NSS 8. Download the update and install it and your problem should be fixed.
