Raymarine ST 80 Wind Problems

Just read the thread on the ST60 wind problem and am wondering if anyone cancomment on the ST 80 wind units. I have anumber of themultifuntion displays and a wind unit and about the only part that works well is the depth. My electical guy tells me that the ST 80 line was discontinued and that they are notorious for issues so I will likely just end up replacing with a more reliable set but I figured I would try here first.

Problem: Wind angle needle does not move. Speed appears to work but not direction. The needle just sort of vibrates but does not change. Calibration seems to have no effect. The AWI wand has a lot of pins. Is it worth sending to Raymarine?

I guess my next thread will be What instrument package? I dont race but I do want to have Wind, Depth, and speed info. The ST 60+ line seems to offer all the data I want but I would like something more reliable.

I have had no luck with my ST80 wind. Works a bit better than yours. Speed always ok. Direction is sometimes ok other times 30 or 40 deg off. During commissioning they replaced two display units. Thought the third was working ok but a year later the problems started. I have given up. I have B & G on my other boat, 15 years and still working fine!

B and G huh? Okay anyone have any longterm experience with the wireless Tacktic units?
