Raymarine Radar reboots all the time

Hi Everybody

I have a Raymarine Digital radar bought new in 2013. Worked perfectly until recently when it started to reboot all the time. I get nominal scan for 1-2-3 minutes, then goes alone in Standby, then when I re-scan, it reboots. With time, the actual scan period reduces gently to a few seconds only and to a full reboot after that.

I check the wiring, the batteries are ok (same behaviour when docked / hooked up).

Any idea ? Any similar experience ?

Thanks

I would run new power wires directly to the battery from the unit, it sounds like a problem in the power wiring to me.

Does the unit have the ability to display the supply voltage?

Similar thing happened to friends Ray unit. Turned out to be the little sensor that reads where the antenna is pointing. Not a particular difficult fix, but there are some instructions that MUST be followed to the letter or it costs you the $$$ entire antenna rotor unit. Sorry, I don't have any specifics, it was a friends boat.

Re: Raymarine Radar reboots all the time

I had a similar problem with a new "A" series (9") and the autopilot was also dropping out of auto at irregular intervals. Eventually tracked it down to crew (and occasionally myself) using a 220V charging socket (powered by the inverter) tio charge phones, iPads, handheld VHF etc on a shelf under which the compass is located. So I taped up the socket so no one can use it.

Re: Raymarine Radar reboots all the time

I had a rebooting problem with my Raymarine Radar. It would reboot every time the transmitter tried to fire up. The solution was very simple. I disconnected all the cables on the back of the display. I then sprayed them with WD40 and reconnected everything. It worked like a champ for another year. Then it happened again. Same thing. Disconnected all the cables, sprayed with WD 40 and reconnected. Doing this is a good first step with all electronics. The connectors are the issue not the cables themselves.

Still digging. Done all the above, opened the radar, checked voltage and all, still didn't find the guilty part. Will recheck with only the radar connected to the display. In the meantime, if you have similar experience, I'll appreciate. Thanks in advance.

Re: Raymarine Radar reboots all the time

I had a problem like this with my E120 classic. Seemed the memory in the device was only 512k and in an area with lots of card data my platinum plus cartridge would overwhelm it. Repeatedly reboot. Take out the cartridge and it was fine

What kind of unit?
