Raymarine or Others ?

Recently I'm quite impressed with the technical specs and flexibility of E Series that's beeing marketed by Raymarine. Would you go with that or choose another brand's complete system like Garmin's or Simrads. What I'm interested with are :

E's 14" version on the chart table
E7 on the helm
Raymarine's sonar, HD radar, sirius weather adapter and (if I really go beserk) infrared system

I'm planning to put those on the next planned sailing cat, 45+ feet and plan for circumnavigation (hence the infrared for night entries and more importantly man overboard situations at night). I know, all sounds incredibly techno, redundant and maybe way over the top but then again, electronics are kind of a fetish! I'd appreciate if any E series owners can share their experiences too...

Best Regards;
M.

Re: Raymarine or others?

raymarine is about a month from releasing a new line. i decided to wait and see the new stuff figuring the current e series will cost less and / or the new stuff will be totally sweet.

if i understand correctly, one of the biggest enhancements is 'much' larger screens. I will be putting in all new gauges soon so i would be interested to hear your opinions as your do more research and draw conclusions.

Much larger screens? Yum yum yum! Well, I'm planning to wait for the gauges since Raymarine recently acquired Tacktick and I'm sure we'll see 100% compatible gauges with great visibility (out). As for inside goes, I'm just planning for ST70 repeaters for the chart table and beside my berth.

Simrad NSS is slick and affordable. NSE is a bit more rugged and a bit more expensive. Lowrance HDS comes in a variety of sizes and is the most affordable of these alternatives. I have the HDS-10 with 3G radar and it's great.

Re: Raymarine or Others ?

The Simrad units are indeed very impressive. I have had the opportunity to speak with Raymarine recently on the new E Series. With the Flir takeover, they are committed to improving the product over what it has been in the past. This includes all new manufacturing facilities and a new engineering staff. In the past I have been a big critic of Raymarine but have now been very impressed in the direction they are moving. I haven't yet had the chance to install any of the new equipment but look forward to it. Chuck

Do you think it will be possible to connect the new E7 to older E80. I have a E80 but i would like to put it inside and the E7 at the helm on my cat

Re: Raymarine or Others ?

Chris, Yes they can be connected, but because Raymarine has changed the network connection, you will need a special patch cable to connect the E7 to an E80. The first release, I believe, was not compatible with all of the Raymarine MFDs so make sure that the one you buy is compatible. Chuck
