Raymarine Network Cables

I've been thumbing through catalogs, owner's manuals, websites, you name it, and haven't found a clear answer to this. I am adding a Raymarine AIS650 to my boat, and need to connect it to the Raymarine C90W multi-function display which is about 25 feet away as the cables run. Can I connect directly with their Spur Cables and 5-way connectors or do I have to start with a Backbone cable and connect through it??

A 5 way STNG block with a terminator at each end is in essence a small backbone, just add a power insertion cord, a spur to the AIS and a Spir to the chart plotter.

Apologies if I've misunderstood, but if you neither have nor have need of SeatalkNG for this, why not connect up via NMEA-0183. If you're already using all the 0183 inputs to the C90W, use the AIS650 as a multiplexer to free up the 38.4k capable input. Cable is way cheaper than anything Raymarine will sell you for SeatalkNG

Thank you for the replies. I am trying to avoid spending a couple of hundred bucks on Seatalk cables. Using NMEA-0183 might be the way to go. Using spurs and a connector would be better than setting up a complete backbone cable. Thanks again!

Just to add that that's the way I have my AIS500 wired up to my C90W. As I'm sure you'll be aware, only port 2 on the C90W can be set up for the 38.4 k baud which AIS requires.

has the software in the C90W been updated to actually work with Ng AIS, it didnt for a long while?

SeatalkNG should go farther than 25', I am considering the same thing. Once SeatalkNG is in the next device will be easy to do. My next plans include adding a new Raymarine autopilot. Also once I fish the cable to the chart plotter I won't need to take the pod apart or another cable through.
