Need Main PCB for ST1000/ST2000+ Tiller Pilot

Hi All;

I would appreciate advice as where I could source a used but working main PCB for my otherwise good ST2000+. Note that both ST1000 & ST2000 models use the same board.

I only found one place in the UK, for which the shipped price of a new PCB was not much cheaper than a complete new unit shipped to me here in Oz!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Graeme

There isn't much of a market for internal tiller pilot parts and most tiller pilot owners use them until they die and then only God knows where they end up. Best of luck to you. If you find a source anywhere you should post it here.

Do you still have the current board ? as i find if you clean them with alco wipes they come good again .I have thought about using arduino for a auto pilot but a lot of work need to go into them

my friend is a electrical engineer and is great with PCB's where in OZ are you I'm in brisbane .I am thinking about buying a roberts 30 and it has two of them on board and I often hear stories of people just using them till they die and buy a new one .I always covered mine in plastic to protect it from the elements and cleaned it with alco wipes .

Re: Need Main PCB for ST1000/ST2000+ Tiller Pilot

My advice is to switch to a different tiller pilot. I’ve no experience with the Simrad but have now had FIVE failures on the ST2000. 2 were bad out of the box, repaired by RM and neither one lasted. One unit has had two failures in under 20 hours of use.

Of the 5 failures 4 have been gyro related. I’ve got to tell you it was EXTREAMLY disappointing to receive 2 brand new units with identical bad gyros. My very first unit worked well until the drive thrust blocks wore out.

OPTION 1. Contact Sean Epinger aka BoatAlexander on this forum and purchase a TinyPilot. It’s about $250 US, you should be able to use it to drive the ST2000 bypassing the control board and gyro.

Then you can buy others old RM units and make them work until the drive wears out.

OOTION2. Buy a Peligic Autopilot. About $900 US but they seem to be very reliable. Cheaper on long run.

Peligic seems promising but with the price of 900 USD I can buy a new st2000 or with 1200 an ev-100 I don't say that raynarine is better but it does offer worldwide warranty and they have replace my tiller unit 2 times by now completely free.

If you are day sailing in a civilized area where such failures are no big deal and you can get good mail shipping then that’s great.

I would prefer to ante up the $$$ and not have failures.

More to the point, your post indicates failures are common.
