Lowrance 250C GPS Question

I just bought my wife (a realtor) a Lowrance 250C GPS for use in her travels around the area.
In looking at the Lowrance web site I see that the 250C can be used with the NauticPath Chart software. I am wondering if this would be a good backup for the GPS already on our boat. We will be cruising the ICW, Offshore on Eastern Seaboard from VA to FL and to the BAHAMAS. I know that the 250C is an automotive device but with the NauticPath Charts would it be useful? With the street charts I know it would be useful when we arrive at a new port of call.

We have a Lowrance H2Oc which takes a Navionics card that I find excellent, perhaps your 250c can accept the same chip?
