how to generate nmea sentence for configuration

Hello,

I discovered that some of mine NMEA 0183 sensors can receive proprietary sentences for configuration purpose. Those sentences are described in the user manual.

I know how to connect my equipment to my pc (and I found on this forum a diagram for home-made opto isolate RS232), but I need your help to get a way to generate those proprietary sentences. I don't find information about this and I don't know which software to use

Does anyone have experience about this ?

A long time ago, Windows included a Terminal program called Hypertext, which you can use to type in the required sentences and send them to the device. I'm sure there are other similar programs available. You can download a trial version of Hypertext for free if you only need it once to calibrate the devices.

That was to simple to be true.
To set up my first mux I already had to user that HyperTerminal.

Now we are used to have nice display and "clickable" option.
This is back to basic commands !

Putty is another very useful app that is free and should work. It's also possible to use the use the command line directly or via batch files. A quick Google found this link on doing this:

Guessing you are not a software guy, but you can send data to the serial port through Java and leverage some of the NMEA sentence tools from the Java Marine Api. See here: Java Marine API - NMEA 0183 library for Java.

Otherwise, your best bet is to install Cygwin, and then use "echo" command to redirect data to the location of the serial port.

I was playing around with generating NMEA sentences and sending them to opencpn via TCP.
