Garmin 7612 WIFI on ship router/switch

I think I saw a similar discussion to this but now can't find it... I recently upgraded to a Garmin 7612 which has the built in WIFI. According to the manual this is it's own WIFI hub and is not configured to join an existing hub. While I can live with this it is needless-to-say less than optimal in that I will have to constantly switch my ipad/phone etc back and forth from two different wifi networks (the garmin) and my Verizon hotspot.

Can someone please tell me if there is a clever networking way to get the Garmin to be part of an existing network? I'm ok if this means having a separate switch that both the hotspot and the garmin exist on.

Thank you and regards,
