Arlo pro cameras onboard for surveilance

Just wondering if anyone has set up the arlo pro system onboard for monitoring your boat from afar?
I am looking to use a 3g/ 4g wifi router for connectivity.
Just need it all to work on 12v

I assume you are talking about marinas and not on the hook? You have to have the connectivity to work, correct?

If so I don't know why it wouldn't work, same as your house.

There is good 4g coverage there and i have a modem that takes a sim card that runs off 5 v usb power.

Then I don't know why it wouldn't work. However, even with good coverage it may be sketchy due to weather or other interference. Then again maybe not if coverage is as good as you say.

Only other factor is the high moisture content of the air, especially if in a salt environment.

Heck, I would go for it. You may be on to something!

I installed an Arlo about a week ago after a theft on my dock. I used my own wireless router (Alfa R-36), which connects by USB either to an Alfa wireless booster (for marina Internet service) or to my unlocked cellphone (one sim has unlimited data service in the US, the other sim I'll use for the Bahamas). The phone also has access to a cellphone booster when I need it.

The camera uses motion detection and uploads to the cloud, with seven days of recording for free. I am very impressed by the quality of the video. I also get messages sent to my computer email and cellphone when it activates--which was a little annoying until I dropped the sensitivity of the motion detector.

I wonder how long the rechargeable battery runs? I would imagine dependent on how often motion is detected. EDIT - just read.. 4-6 months average use.. @ 5 min. day recording.

Excellent question on the battery life. It's one reason why I lowered the motion sensitivity. Anyone who walked past activated it. I am already at 90% life after a week.

Arlo recommends against rechargeable lithium batteries. The Arlo takes four at a time, and they are NOT cheap. I wonder if my insurance company would give me a lower premium?

Thats the type of setup i was looking at, how do you adjust the motion detection? Do i need a laptop to set it up?

I just finished writing up my impressions on the Arlo Pro cameras on my sailboat after about 8 months of use: https://sailbits.com/arlo-security-c...-the-sailboat/

I like them for the security they provide, and they seem to have been pretty accurate. The batteries look like they will need to be charged 3-4 times a year, which is fine by me. The ability to quickly grab them off their magnetic mounts when it is time to sail and throw them in a locker is perfect, and the quality and control is exactly what I want on the boat. They also are better than a lot of the other solutions I have tested or used elsewhere which require a permanent high bandwidth internet connection, which I don't have.

So far I like them, but to each their own!
