Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I was a wannabe, been on here for a few years, just purchased a 30foot C&c this summer. It takes some of us longer to get in the game than others.

Congrats on your purchase. May you have fair winds blowing the direction you want to go.

Great news! I was a wannabe for 12 years, I cast no stones. Have a ball!

Nope... this IS you moving forward.

Maybe you get this boat, maybe you don't... but you already took the step forward (meaning even if it's not this boat, it will be soon enough because you just decided to make it happen).

Good luck (and good work)!

Still here, . Just so busy with boat repairs and additions and replacements there is little time. When we leave in a couple 6 weeks there may be time. We are on a couple of boat specific groups which helps a lot

I think we can do without the personal attacks against long time contributors. Thanks.

I came on here in 2008 when I was investigating doing the great loop. Lots of great info & knowledgeable people on here.

Just recently came back on here. Now have a gf & we're investigating puerto rico for retirement. Altho, Probably a no go for us. Still thinking about live aboard but...

I typically try to have hobbies /lifestyle that generates money or at least doesn't cost alot of money. I haven't found that here yet! Gf n i may have decided we'd rather live where we live & take a NCL cruise every month when we retire.

Someone suggested hvac as a money maker on here. I might investigate this as a side gig. Live aboard seem to have some good knowledge. But buying a $2,800 boat & then having to buy a $3,000 sail doesnt work for me. Gf n I can find inexpensive cruises & $6k would go a long way.

Edit: someone was keeping pretty good records & said it was costing about $3k/month doing liveaboard for he & his wife to have good lifestyle. Just saw a cruise for $300 pp

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

I joined here as a wannabe not that long ago. Asked/still asking questions that have probably all been asked before. I don't own a boat but have gone from someone with zero sailing experience to my second season of sail training and crewing on keel boats at the local club.

Thanks to all who have helped me so far.

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

Plenty of us wannabes progress to doin-its.

Then we find that we no longer have time to post on CF.

I'm just here because I have a lunch break during my first aid training course. Then it's back to running around the boat for me.

Most don't, they just move on to wannabe something else.

I'm starting to suspect the successful conversion rate is higher than we think.

I'm not saying it's great, but I do think it may be OK.

I believe the original attack came from the OP; it was on all the wannabees who have had a dream but have not been able to fulfill it, and at the same time using the FORUMS KNOWLEDGE.

I do agree that the OP has a lot of knowledge about boats and has been a long time contributor and I thank him for that. But, if the OP is sharing his knowledge, he should not be disparaging the wannabees for using that knowledge.

If you don't remember the OP, go back and read it. And you are right, we shouldn't have personal attacks on long term or first time contributors.

ACM All Contributors Matter.
