I agree somewhat... but... I really think you are letting emotions get the best of you and being a little irrational.

I mean think about it.. You are asking a cruiser to take you 2-3 days offshore to look for a boat that hasn't had a position update for 5 days, in the Christmas winds. Really, think about it.. We are all out here cruising. Most won't even jump between the islands when the winds are elevated.

I think you need to slow down, take a breath and make a solid plan. I agree that coming back out here is important, but don't expect people to jump and risk their boats on a long shot.

Ok that's a good point, I wouldn't want to put anyone else's boat or crew at risk.

Does anyone know of any yachts forsale? Up to $15,000 in the Caribbean

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

Hi mate, I'm currently aboard my 42' sailboat here in Antigua having left Tenerife the day after you (Santa Cruz.)was on pontoon 2 for 10 days. What's your boats name? Nationality? If you find where she is and I can be of any help just ask. Two years ago I towed a 40 foot yacht in distress 20 miles in 25knt winds from Montserrat to Antigua... a slow but sure passage, it can be done. Find your boat and we'll go get her, I don't want any monies, just happy to help a fellow Cruiser... Would be my pleasure. My email is chelone2078@gmail.com like I say, anything I can do to help you just ask, Best of luck, John Blair s/y Ballyhoo (UK)

Just a thought. How about a charter rental? You have at least one volunteer for cost of return ticket?
Where exactly are you now?
Keep up the hope!

REALLY.... A $15000 yacht out to open sea.. Seriously....

Even down here, a $15000 yacht is going to be something that has sat at anchor for years with someone living aboard. It would be insanity to think you could quickly buy a boat at that low price and take it out into the Atlantic.

Really, if you have a solid plan and a good fix, I can't imagine you not finding someone to help for $15K (A professional).

Head down here.. Work the docks (Falmouth, English), and wait for a location fix.

I'm not sure what else to suggest! If you left the motor ticking over with just your electronics on, I don't understand why the battery would be run down. The AIS should have had many many days of transmitting.

I'm flying from Martinique to Antigua tomorrow. Best way to get from the airport? Do buses run or is it a taxi job?

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

As on most Caribbean islands there are local mini buses that run most places. Cheaper by far than taxi.

Where are you going from the airport?

Of course buses will be cheap ($3.25EC) but a taxi will be much faster. Unfortunately taxis are fairly expensive here.. Pretty close to USA prices...

Once you are here, please post or PM me.. I will do what I can. I don't have many contact here, but I have a few. I can probably get people to help out with a car or introduce you to some people!

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

we crosed the atlantic from Tenerife to St. Vincent starting November 19 arriving to St. Vincent Blue lagoon at December 9 (two weeks ago) it is the exact area you are talking about needless to say we didnt see any vessel drifting arround us, however we met at the last third of the trip an Oyster 72 going to Barbados by the name "Experience", i believe he is still at the area.

It is a big ocean out there we met only 3 vessels on our way, i think that your best choice for now is to use the social media as much as you can, flying or sailing to look for your boat will cost a lot with very low chance to find her.

also note that the ARC went out at thees dates, again social media.

good luck.

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

An aerial search is the only way you're going to find this boat but it will be very expensive & without a good idea of where to look has little hope. At this point the harsh reality is that accepting your loss & moving on is the best course of action. Wasting your clearly limited resources in a search with little chance of success would be counterproductive. Instead of focusing on your loss focus on what was saved, your family, & be thankful. Starting this next phase of your life with a positive outlook will help you get through this tough transition.
