Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

I own a lifeboat in Antigua that could possibly perform this rescue. Please get in touch, Chris Harris, 1268 770 4935

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

Quick update..
No more fixes from the coastguard, but they are contacting all vessels in the area to keep a lookout and hopefully get a definite fix. With that I can calculate drift rate and direction. As soon as I have this I will be back and taking you up on your offers of help.

I am so humbled by everyone's kindness, many many thanks

Hopefully you can receive PMs now... The mods have been trying to work out a circumventing of the system.. Pete7 and Nigel1 especially in the back room.

Best of luck with everything....

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

Ok I'm now looking for someone to take me out there on a yacht, all the other options are way too expensive. I could do with getting out there as soon as possible and hopefully get a call with an updated position whilst on the way out.

It's a tricky one, but is anyone willing?? A nice 3-5 day rescue mission, just find the boat and drop me off. I will sort things from there, just want to be onboard

Mate,

You want an actual (present) position from the tracker. You may find it extremely difficult to find a boat by a position 24hrs old and a drift rate.

I assume you left a tracker onboard. Active AIS should do fine too, if you left it on.

Finding a boat offshore, sans trackers is, ... errrrr .... not all that easy.

Cheers,
b.

Maybe of use in the future: I belong to a car club that maintains a "Rescue Squad" Web page. Type in your postal code and nearest members of the rescue squad show up, with a listing of their resources and capabilities. Clearly easier on land than at sea, but it may offer a first resort to get things moving. Squad members get somewhat vetted at the time they sign up. Hope the OP gets the help needed.

His 1st post said he left the AIS on with motor ticking over to keep the batteries charged. Getting out there a.s.a.p. is essential.

I am really hoping that now that Xmas is over, their will be a better response locally for a rescue solution.

Have you thought of how you are going to stabilize the damage you saw underneath?

What exactly " delaminated" (the rudder?)

Do you think you hit something?

Do you have dive gear on board?

What do you think you need to bring with you to jury rig a steering fix.

Perhaps we can help with this thought process, whilst her location is fixed.

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

Once we have an actual updated position, I'm pretty sure we can find someone to help. There are tons of vessels here and if there was a real chance (with a location) of finding her, I think someone would step up.

I would love to post the details on the Facebook group as it now has the eyes of the Super yacht guys. A Class A AIS has the best chance of finding her.

Yes I will take bits out with me to fix or make a replacement rudder. I think the batteries would've run down by now for the AIS. I think if I headed for the last know position up the route it's drifting, hopefully get a call on the way out with a recent fix

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

I know it's a long shot, but I think I'll have more chance of finding it out there than sat here. The longer I sit around the harder it'll be to find it. So I think I've just got to get out and search
