Barton Winchers - Any good?

Hi Everyone,

I hope you're well and enjoying the boating season. I have been thinking of upgrading my winches to self-tailing but due to the age of my boat, I've been hesitant about making the investment. I own a 1969 CAL 28. Has anyone tried out the Barton Winchers and are they any good? Do you think they would be safe on a 28 ft boat and be able to hold the load in moderate wind? I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

I have Winchers on the halyard winches (30' yacht). They are OK for this use: most of the hauling is done by hand, with just one turn around the winch for safety. The Winchers are useful when hoisting a sail with some wind in it.

I wouldn't trust a Wincher to hold a sheet under tension: I would prefer to secure it on a regular cleat near the winch.
