O'Day 39

I am looking at a 1985 O'day 39' for sale and would appriciate any comments or thoughts anyone might have on this boat.

i had a 1986 o'day 40. it was a good boat but tended to pound in a chop like any other flat bottom, fin keel boat. Both the 39 and the 40 are based upon the Jeanneau Sun Fizz (O'Day and Jeanneau were owned by the same company then).There are a few differences (reverse transom and a second hull port).

Three comments for you to mull over:

1. If it has a Westerbeke 46 engine then make sure you do a compression check. There was a manifold problem on those engines but Westerbeke made good on repairs.

2. its a balsa cored deck so make sure everything is well bedded and that any deck hardware added has proper backing plates.

3. it sailed well but was a headsail driven boat. make sure the genoa is in good shape
