Cost of "on the hard" storage in Caribbean

Who has some round figures for storing a boat in the Caribbean for half a year or so?

I realize it is a pretty big place and there could be some pretty influential variables.

Here is the general scenario.

40 ft catamaran.
Store on hard for 6 months.
Storage will be summer = hurricane season.

Would want some sort of security. It would be nice to return and still have a dingy, outboard, electronics and the kitchen sink.

Plugged in with charger and dehumidifier? It would be nice to return and not have black mold everywhere.

Covered? It would be nice to not have to use a shovel to get to the gel coat upon return.

Separate storage? Do people do this to protect things like cushions and mattresses?

As you can tell I know little on the subject. Please take my hand. Don't bite it.

I`m by far an expert on the carribean since I have never been there, but you might want to be more specific to get good responses.

Such as:

What part of the Carribean (its kinda big)?
Completely out of the Hurricane belt or are you playing the odds?

I have seen how this forum can go and thought I might throw you a bone.

Lord knows where I would be at the end of the first 6 months. Maybe still in the Bahamas. Then I would ask about places in the ditch I guess.

I understand Trinidad is very popular. That's way down there eh?

1k, 5k, 25k, close?

Re: Cost of "on the hard" storage in Caribbean

Jolly Harbour in Antigua is probably a good yardstick, although I'm pretty sure it'll be lower priced than the IGY marina/boatyards. The seasonal cost is a composite of several different charges. You can calculate what the charges would be from the info on their website.

Antigua marinas | Jolly Harbour Marina, Antigua Caribbean | boatyard, travelift, superyacht terminal

I was happy with them. Used Bailey's Boatyard in Falmouth, Antigua, and they were fine, too. (associated with Catamaran Marina)

Grenada Marine has a website you can check out, too.

Re: Cost of "on the hard" storage in Caribbean

I was recently comparing Jolly Harbour Marina with Rodney Bay Marina, St Lucia where I have laid up previously. Once government taxes in Antigua are added in the rate of storage ashore for my 40 footer is $469 as against $489 at JH so comparing rates is not easy as different islands have different tax rates.

seanie20,

I've had my boat hauled and stored at Rodney Bay Marina boatyard also, but it was before IGY took over. I can't find their boatyard rates on their website any more. Do you know where to find their current rates on the Internet? All I see is "call us for rates".

For Trini, just google "Peake's" in Trini for prices.....

No I don't know about that. I spent a long time ashore and spoke to them directly so probably got a better rate. I would have to look up in my records as I don't have to hand.
