convert excel spreadsheets xlsx to xls

Can someone give me a hand please - I just finished our review of 2018 cost and want to put out our 10 years of cost data - but the system does not allow a XLSX file only a XLS file.

How do I manage this.

You are probably using an old version of Excel. Is there a read you need the newer format (xlsx)? You should be able to open the XLS version on the old and the new.

As above, but if you really need xlsx format and you have a windows live account you should be able to open it in office online and save as to that format.

When you do a "save as", there's a drop down box that will allow you to select different file types. If you have an .xlsx file that you want to save as .xls, just select that file type and Excel will convert it.

You will receive a warning message that some features will be lost. If you've used calculations or features available in an .xlsx file type but not available in a .xls, you will lose that, but generally this shouldn't be a problem as most of the features not available in .xls are in regards to VBA and macro programming.

Libreoffice is a free download and very useful program for spreadsheet and document file conversions. It will allow you to open and create in any of the formats you are likely to want.
