Good Book on General Seamanship

Just looking at buying this on amazon for myself to learn a bit about general seamenship etc...

Amazon.com: Chapman Piloting & Seamanship 66th Edition (Chapman Piloting, Seamanship and Small Boat Handling) (9781588167446): Charles B. Husick: Books

Just wondering what people think of this as a broad general guide to give me a bit of an idea in handling something like a 43' trawler cat or 50' mono trawler for coastal cruising and general adventures on the seas

Coming from just a small trailerable powerboat history.

Re: Good book on general seamanship?

It is the Bible. Even the USCG uses it. I bought my first one in the 60's and I get a new edition about every five years. I currently use the 64th.

Thanks Ike - I should have asked this in the OP but does it have enough general info to be useful for a non-US mariner? I see in its description a fair bit of info about US regulations and conditions etc...

Re: Good Book on General Seamanship

Yes. Most of what is in it is useful anywhere, and the International Aids to Navigation section is the same as around the world. The Uniform State Waterway marking system would not be applicable outside the US.

Agreed, I started reading it in Sea Scouts at the age of 13. Excellent book.

Steve Dashew's "Practical Seamanship", "Storm Tactics", "Cruising Encyclopedia", etc... are amazing IMO. They really spell it out for the beginner all the way through advanced approaches to every topic you can imagine. I'll never be without mine. Champman's Piloting, mentioned above is also a must.
