The best 12 Volt fan for the cabin?

Any recommendation for a real air moving 12 V fan?
Just bought one at NAPA, ready to trash it!
Thanks

I like the Caframo open frame ones. They are low cost, low power, move decent air and are easy to clean. We have 6 onboard.

I bought 4 of the caframo 747 open frame variants. Another liveaboard near me went with the sirocco ii and I would say they are more streamlined/consume less space. Not sure about airflow but I like mine. They move a decent amount of air but consume more space

Re: The best 12 Volt fan for the cabin?

From my experience both the Hela and Caframo fans are good products. I have 5 of the Caframo Bora fans and 2 helas. The Helas definitely are more realiable than the Boras. Both Helas have been in use for other 10 years. I've had to replace the Boras every 2-3 years.
Beyond reliability, the Boras are better cabin fans. They move more air on the same amps and are quieter. On high the Bora is quieter than the Hela on low. I have one Bora over my berth and with it on low I sleep undisturbed. I have tried that with the Hela - no joy there.

Re: The best 12 Volt fan for the cabin?

I had a Caframo bora die recently. The motor seemed to have burnt out and button won’t press.

These are very expensive in Europe. Don’t think I’ll get another.

I also have two 737 open caframo fans. I like these, but again they are expensive in Europe and the blades are not readily available.

I’m experimenting with 120cm computer fans. They are super cheap and very quiet. An array of four of them gives a nice breeze.

120cm fan? That's one big computer you got

Anyone tried running a car radiator fan at a lower voltage so it runs slower?

Do you want one that mounts? If not, I recently bought one (ordered) from Walmart.

It's a good size (12") and not too loud if you aren't sleeping right next to it

It has a long cord which I attached/soldered to wires from a switch on my panel

I place it in a secure place while sailing. The cost was $40.00

Had excellent service from Hella fans. About 10 years part time on our old boat, and 9 years full time on this one. Zero problems.

Yes, I had them on my last boat, very good. I now have the Caframo caged ones ,more expensive BUT I'd prefer the former, quieter, cheaper and as Paul says, easy to clean.

Re: The best 12 Volt fan for the cabin?

Incidentally, I also have a Massey 120 volt fan that's super quiet. ($14.00)

This one hooks up to my 400 watt Inverter. It's not as efficient as the 12 volt fan due to the inverter but really quite. I've had it for about 5-6 years on the boat and used it last Thursday night

The good thing about this one and the other 12V one I mentioned is that you can place them where you want since they aren't mounted

After running it for 12 hours or so including over night, my batteries (two 90 ah, 12 volt in parallel) will read around 11.9 volts. They are charged by solar only

With the 12 volt fan, batteries are at about 12.2 or 12.3 in the am

Re: The best 12 Volt fan for the cabin?

I have 5 of Bora fans. The first one installed is still going strong after 5 years. They are quiet at speed 1&2 and don't use much power (barely tell the power use over night compared to the refrigerator). But they are a PITA to clean so I finally installed spade connectors at each fan to make easy to remove for cleaning (only need to do every 4-6 months)
