Good quality flags

I'm tired of going through so many US flags. Found out that the hot deal is "Car flags"(like the pres might have on the front of his limo.) Made of a double layer of polyester and screen printed. I got a couple, and they're nice and a lot less than the Nyl-glo flags.

Yeah, those Nyl-glo flags that sell for $30-40 in WM and other chandleries are one big rip off.

We have taken the opposite approach to quality - we buy a several screen printed flags for $3 each. I don't know if they are the polyester ones you speak of, although they definitely are not double layer. However, they last 4-8 months, depending on the wind. 4 months in constant trade winds, and 8 months in normal variable winds.

We have never had a $30 Nyl-glo flag last more than 6 months in the trade winds.

They are online but I found them at an army navy "surplus" store.

If you are looking for a great value in high end, made in US, embroidered stars, flags in larger sizes, they are generally available for purchase at the office of your US Congressman. This may be more than you received from your Congressman, ever!

Guy's right. Nylon won't stand up to sunlight. Polyester stands up to sunlight much better.

Use printed flags. Avoid embroidered flags. The friction of air on the embroidery tears them apart after a month or two.

I get my Canadian ensigns wherever. I get my US courtesy ensigns at a dollar store. A week before the 4th of July I clean a dollar store out of its US flags, install two 3/8" grommets in the hoist of each one and Voila! A year's supply of US courtesy flags to wear, give away, Christmas presents...

Just bought a Canadian flag from our local flag store. They sewed it to exactly the size and with the cord I wanted from heavy material. Interesting comment on the stitching with the wind pulling it apart vs. silk screened. I guess I'll see for myself in the next couple of months.

I also have a Rider flag I fly on the Port spreader. It's one of the car flags that I pulled apart and sewed cord into to hang it. That flag is the double thickness and standing up very good so agree with this idea.
