Not calligo but I have made my standing rigging out of FSE roblines ocean 3000 dyneema. Glad that I can make it myself and carry spares or make them as I go along.love it.

This is one of the mast shrouds completed, with ye olde leather chafe. I have gone with regular stainless thimbles to keep the cost down, but calligos stuff sure looks mighty purty

Nice job man!!! Looks good. My guess is that she is a gaffer???? Dux seems to be perfect for a gaff rig application.

I still have not been able to get beyond the chafe issues at the end of a spreader.

Constant inspection and frequent replacement I think will be a reality for this type of rigging.

Curious if anyone has any thoughts about mixing the rig with stainless i.e. .... Say Dux backstay, runners, and staysail stay. But the uppers or cap shrouds would be stainless. Maybe the lowers too. Best to go stainless on the fore stay.

Can anyone think of any issues mixing the two materials???

Pretension is different for Dux than it is for stainless........

There have been some questions about temperature changes affecting metal masts and losing tension and tune. The Dux is obviously not affected so much by any temp variations. Pretension and the tune is key to any column in compression.

So the mixing of SS rigging and Dux is a non issue?? I figure the racing crowd are fine tuning their rig often.........

Yep, mate she is a gaff rigged wingsail, a James Wharram thing.In fact the forestay bridle as well as the forestay are made of dyneema rigging, but only thicker than the mast shrouds, for this I used amsteel blue. Also the dolphin striker is dyneema.

I think the mixing is fine, but for me the synthetics are a clear winner.

We miss our olde gaffer. Simple, rugged, efficient...... Dirt cheap to operate and maintain.

Ive already changed out the runners and life lines to Dux. Re rigging soon and I think I am going to mix it up a bit more. Still knocking my brain for a solution of chafe at the spreader end.......

I have seen photos of a "sleeve" over the spreader. I will be doing mine too, but need to research more on specifically how to do this "sleeve" for chafe protection

Was going to research to see what it was and where to get.

I have been thinking about cutting down and spreading a SS thimble and somehow attaching that to the end of the spreader. That with the sleeve and a bit of extra dyneema just might do the trick. I would still have to customize (code for jury rig) something.

I am pretty well convinced that chafe will be the major bugger with this stuff. Followed closely by UV degradation.

Question re spreader tips and Dux shrouds:

Considering the extremely slippery nature of Dux, how do you get adequate clamping at the spreader tip to prevent slipping up and down under changing loads? On our fractional rig with swept back spreaders it is essential to get them clamped tight.
