Sea Soap

We're looking for a product called "Sea Soap," which can be used to shower in sea water off the back of our sailboat. It lathers in salt water. We've always purchased it from our marine dealer (recently closed) in 8 oz. rectangular squeeze bottles. Can't find it at any marine dealers or the Internet. Any suggestions on where to find it or a substitute?

We used Sailor Soap.

Sailor Soap™ is a biodegradable, concentrated cleanser for face, hair and body, that both lathers and rinses in salt water!

“Joy” (Proctor & Gamble) and many other liquid dish detergents work well in salt (& hard) water, as do soaps made from coconut or oil (soluble in saltwater).

Joy dish soap is the ticket, works great, cheap, you can even wash your hair with it in salt water and it comes out soft and shiny.

Every liquid body wash or hand soap - ie the soft soaps one buys in pumps or refills for those - we have tried has worked fine in saltwater. In fact worked just the same as if the water was fresh. Same with every hair shampoo we have tried.

I should point out that there may be exceptions, we have never set out to conduct exhaustive tests of brands .

Joy is the brand name that keeps coming back year after year.

"as do soaps made from coconut or oil " IF you don't want to pay spa prices for that, look for "Rokeach" brand kosher dish soap, sold in the kosher foods section of any large supermarket. Made from coconut oil or other neutral oils, to avoid the problem of using animal fat products that might be prohibited. There might be something "Halal" certified in Moslem markets as well, since that's taken from kashrut.
