Re: Where easy to find and get charts and pilotage books?

You might find the UK Cruising Association useful. They have a fantastic library for members at their base in Limehouse (London), and a good website, with superb information from members about ports and harbours all over the world. It costs to join, but you get discounts at marinas and similar. They could certainly point you in the right direction on charts.

Failing that, I would find the nearest port where there are cruisers overwintering, and talk to people about what's available locally. Often, somebody will have the chart you need, to swap or buy at well below new cost. You can also pick up 'local knowledge', from people who have actually used the chart in question, and can give you the information the charts don't show!

You might also try and get hold of the Imray catalogue - shows all they produce, with mini-maps showing the scope of each chart.

If you are in London Stanfords can print any Admiralty chart on demand. They have a decent selection of pilot books too.

Re: Where easy to find and get charts and pilotage books?

There is a guy on eBay UK who has heaps of charts for sale - many just recently out of date. I still occassionally buy my planning large scale charts from him and then some smaller scale charts if I feel the need. I do buy new pilotage books though. Just go onto eBay and do a search for BA Charts.

In particular, I want a large-scale chart of the west coast UK area from Fleetwood, Lancashire, and northward to Stranraer, Scotland, and so taking in the Solway. Then I will buy small-scale charts of this area, and also the pilotage books of havens and harbours.

I prefer paper rather than electronic, at this juncture.

So how can I do this, click, click, click, simple?

Thanks.

While they are not located in the UK, these folks appear to have a really good catalog of Admiralty charts, and you should be able to specifically identify what you need, and then obtain it from a local provider, probably among those mentioned in earlier posts:

Re: Where easy to find and get charts and pilotage books?

If your in the NW, and anywhere near to Manchester, you are welcome to a set of Admiralty Leisure Charts covering the area you interested in
https://www.toddchart.com/product/vi...n-part-and-iom
https://www.admiralty.co.uk/Admiralt...rts/sc5613.pdf

I ordered the latest edition from Todd's Chart agency about a year ago, they never arrived, so they sent a replacement. Few weeks ago, the originals turned up.

Free if you are happy to collect, but I'm away at sea at the moment, expect to be back end of Feb. Drop me a PM if interested.
