Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Looks like Maitai and Kirke are right together 54 & 50. Go for it. Will the low off Sierra Leone accelerate east? Looks like some sailors think so, by the way they're headed. Or is that just to finally get some speed after "horsing" around?

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Used to have some daylight ahead, now there's a whole crew of boats coming down for better wind or to avoid the hole, I notice Frogeater is maintaining course.

Maitai I've got a question for you. What happens at the end of the race, do we all stretch our legs and hit the bars? If I am lucky enough to win, where is the awards ceremony?

No prizes, just glory...

At the end of the race apart from going to the bar, you start staring at VLM's calendar to know when is the next race

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Hi maitai
looks like we have found the right door through the ITC, lets see how manny places we gain in the next 5 days.
and now the next question is where to pick up the low pressure system and ride the wave till the finish.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Yes it looks like you do have the door. I hope I'm not too late, because there's a low wind tongue following, that may affect my boat in the next grib if the low wind area goes west further. Should have headed down earlier. What does ITC stand for?

I had an idea that might be very nice to fiddle with to determine wind areas better... ability to adjust the wind ranges with for color, some kind of popup slider adjustment tool to fine tune and create greater contrasts in specific wind ranges, maybe it is a second color display mode, or perhaps a second screen color setting that can be saved and reloaded? I'm trying to figure out how to make it simple to use and simple to program. --I often find myself running my cursor across the screen looking at the wind down below in the status bar to determine whats going on, because the color range is pretty broad, until you zoom out, and then it is fine.

You can uncheck interpolate colors (or smooth color I don't remember) in the grib menu to have a better view (but less beautiful) of the wind strength areas

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Thank you both. Unchecking Grib File / Color gradients is helpful and does show the grib areas much much better, including bridges, with contour lines at about 10 knots and 5 knots. Because of my position and the wind I find myself in, I've been looking at a different range, differences of 1/2 knot, sometimes in the range of 11-12, 12-13, sometimes 10-11. Is that too detailed?

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Yes it would be helpful to be able to specify the range. It is not possible in qtVlm, next big version (not 3.x) has it already.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

In <12hrs we run out of green. What a difference one grib makes. Still the favored route it appears.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

As a rule lower winds means more trouble with grib and therefore more opportunities to be tricky

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Last night lost 10 places to guys coming in from the east. The green is elusive. A routing of Frog's guys 1-6 gets closer.

QtVlm Virtual Race Mode - Learning Notes This is a page under qtVlm User Discussion. How can I add it it Tutorials (an idea) in the qtVlm? Once that is done I'll add some screenshots.
