Sextant adjustment

I recently picked up a David White WW2 sextant. I have it fairly well adjusted but would like to get it near perfect. Is there a proper tool to adjust the little square head mirror screws? Where do I find one?

Re: Sextant adjustment

There is a "proper" tool - it usually comes with the sextant. However, this tool is often lost. There was a discussion on NavList about how to get a replacement, but I can't seem to locate that discussion just now. Anyway, I don't think there's a way to order just that part.

However, there are a few options available to you: You could get a small piece of metal tubing and shape the end into a square with a pair of pliers. You might be able to find a wrench or socket or other tool with a square end small enough to fit the screws.

But I think your best bet would be an adjustable pocket watch key - like these on eBay. They're made to fit square winding posts of various sizes on old pocket watches.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just got the sextant, no box and no tool. HarborFreight pelican style box was $24 on sale with coupon.

Contact Celestaire. They should be able to help you.

They have a wrench but say it does not fit other models

I have some square brass tube stock. I bet I can fabricate something similar.

Re: Sextant adjustment

Perhaps make one from scratch with some tool steel and a grinder/disk sander?
