Good news for OpenCPN - NEW 17.3 Samsung ATIV Q which can run Windows 8 AND Android at the same time. Coming out soon at around US $ 600.- (probably less in the US)

You initially start up in Win 8 and later select Android. Immediate switch between the two,can even have two different displays simultaneously.

Use as stand-alone tablet or mini laptop with keyboard.

Love the specs. Not sure about this particular price point.

I have browsed some and could not see any indication of the price.

If it comes at below USD 600, I am getting one.

My only price indication is from Norway where they mention NOK 4.000.- = US $ 600- approx. With an import tax of 100% I hate to think what it will cost here.

Another report from Brazil mentions it will be in the shops in August at around US $ 699.- in the US.

My Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is only 12 months old so I probably have to wait until they start production of the ATIV Q in Brazil.

I can see some much lower specs Ativ Smart PC Pro is now around +13k SEK. Makes USD 2k or so. Can't see how Samsung is about to give us so much more for so much less.

Cheapest full Win 10'' tablet here (Spain) is USD 900 or thereabouts. Can we get a 13.3'' bi-system USB 3 toy with a keyboard for USD 600?

Let's wait and see.

barnakiel.. Seen in that light,yes,I agree,but these are two almost identical estimates from two different countries.. but we shall just have to wait and (hopefully) see.

Why would it not be possible to have a cloud based OpenCPN we could all access from an Android device whenever we have internet connection? I have around 30+ on-line Windows based URL´s I can access from my Galaxy 10.1 Tablet. I know in Scandinavia and also the UK you have 3G or perhaps also 4G internet coverage all along the coast.

In Norway you have free charts and app so Open CPN in a cloud would be just an optional extra.

In Sverige, 3/4 G access varies and tends to be great in populated areas and nil in the unpopulated areas.

BTW look up NV APP areas for SVE and South NOR were free when I checked them out last.
