picking charts

I am new at this so please bear with me.

When I open Open cpn, it brings up the last chart I was on (say Florida Keys). But I want to start at the big bend on a different chart. Is there a quick way to bring up that chart or must I use the arrow buttons or scroll to get there?

Also, sometimes I open the program and I get a green background map with chart outlines and sometimes not. what's that all about?

When I do get the green map with the chart outlines, shouldn't I have all the charts along the bottom of the page (chart selector) sometimes I get only one or two

Re: picking charts

The "green background map" is a base charts, shown when there's no navigational chart suitable for display. When you zoom "too far out", it's what you see.
Just charts taking up a reasonable amount of space on screen make it into the chart selector bar for performance reasons - Imagine that you have thousands of charts (a lot of people do), if we tried to show all of them while at very small scale, it would not make much sense, as each "button" would be too small...
