Local knowledge needed - Pamama/Mexico

Hi all
Having a rethink. My plan was to sail from Panama to Hawaii this summer via Galapagos route then leave the boat over the winter and do Hawaii Canada next summer. Two problems, getting crew for such a long trip is difficult and finding a safe place to leave the boat in Hawaii at an affordable price near impossible.

Plan B. From Panama sail up the coast possibly as far as Acapulco this summer, leave the boat there until spring then sail to Canada either with a short break in Hawaii or direct (via the offshore 'delivery' route).

If anyone has don this route in summer would appreciate comments. Not to worried about whether, it is south of the hurricane zone and coastal so can run in if anything above a gale kicks up.

Anyone got experience of cost for keeping a boat in S Mexico for 6 months, can be afloat of ashore, I will fly back home so only thinking of security not facilities, any major problems with officials/places to avoid/recommendations? Any options S of Mexico?
