Quote[In your original post, you said you use Mobac to create pngs from bing. I don't see bing as one of the map sources in Mobac 1.8. Did you mean Microsoft Maps or Microsoft Virtual Earth?]Unquote

The short answer is Yes. Microsoft Virtual Earth is now called Bing Maps for Enterprise.
I found a GE2KAP file modified yesterday on your website. Will try it out later today.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Phiggins

I have now downloaded 9.4.22 and tried the prog with some ozi produced map files and jpg images (these are self scanned paper and navigated on in the electronic form and found to be accurate in ozi) They load into ocpn, but one is about 1 mile north of their correct place and 1/2 mile west. Also the chart moves around in its calibration red outline square. I have tried 2 charts and both are similar though the amount of offset are different

Is this because I have used a jpeg instead of a png image?

the reality is I dont need the old self scans as the dutch now provide the encs @ENC - Fairway Information Services,

but it would be nice for some other baltic self scans I have.

EDIT

Have tried a png image similar to above and the same problems exist.

zooming in alters the position of a waypoint displayed on the chart, of both the jepg and png. images

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Phiggins,
I can confirm that the latest GE2KAP works fine for the Mobac generated .png files. Thank you very much for this.
The only observation (not: criticism) is that GE2KAP refused to load a very big (almost 1 Gb) .png file. Global Mapper did not balk here. No problem with files of 110 Mb though.

Hello

Imgkap works very well with MOBAC, simply generate a kmz file and unzip it.
You can also generate colors dusk and night automatically on kap file either on Linux, Windows or Mac ...

Did someone mention hijacking a thread....
Is there an Imagekap thread I can go rant about GE2KAP?

Sorry but I couldn't resist.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

GE2KAP.V9.4.25

I just uploaded a new version to fix the problems with the Oziexplorer map files.

It also creates a nicer looking chart when you do overlays. Previous versions had the red colors like used in markers washed out.

You get the new version at: www.gdayii.ca/Downloads and click on GE2KAP. The unzip password is phiggins

Also, someone complained (won't mention any names) that I don't provide the source for GE2KAP. The program is written in REXX so the source IS the program itself. BUT I do do some of the work in a a DLL, GE2KAPFuncs.dll, written in C++ when the function is not provided in REXX or it runs faster in C++. So in this version the GE2KAP.zip contains a directory called GE2KAPFuncs that contains all the source that I use to compile the DLL including the GE2KAPFuncs.CPP. So if you want to see whats in there have a look. I even include the Makefile.win file I use to compile it but you would also have to get the CXimage source which the image processing routines I use to recreate the dll.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Windows 8

I just upgraded to Windows 8 and found that Google Earth and OpenCPN run very slow on Win8 if you are using the OpenGL graphics mode. In fact OpenCPN doesn't work at all. Seems to work fine using Direct X.

This presents a bit of a dilemma for GE2KAP:
When you use Direct X mode it presents a problem for GE2KAP if you are overlaying a very large chart because for some reason GE doesn't load all of it in that mode. But if you use OpenGL, because GE is so slow , when GE2KAP types into the overlay window the typed message gets out of sequence unless you specify a very high typing delay.

There is a lot discussion related to Windows 8 and OpenGL on the Internet and perhaps new drivers are needed but I haven't found any to fix my system.

For now I recommend you don't use OpenGL.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Hi Paul,

Great project, but is there a way of just using GE2 to take an image and a CAL file to generate a KAP file?

I think it dos but I am getting an error about lat and log??

I think I have resolved it.... It would seem that the program does not like working from a network drive.... Files placed on the local machine and it seems to work like a charm.

Sorry for the bother

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

lone_viper,

Yes check the Help file "Overlaying Images/Chart. The image has to have calibration data which can be from a variety of sources: MapCal's CHARTCAL.dir, gpx, kml, map and text. The calibration data has to be in the same directory as the image and have the same filename (except for CHARTCAL.DIR),

If you have problems send me the image and the calibration file. send to
phiggins()gmn-usa.com (replace the () with you know what)

OOps posted too soon.

Thanks. Great app by the way.... In the process if trying to get a raspberry Pi useful onboard... ;-) Not sure the response will be up to it though.. Hope the guys at OpenCPN are in the process of optimising some code. grin.

take care and thanks again

Re: Dateline Issues with GE2KAP and Maxsea

Paul,

We're cruising Fiji, which is notorious for bad charting. So have been using GE2KAP heavily. We have found an issue with charts made with GE2KAP which cross over the dateline. We have been out of internet touch, so just settled on making charts that DIDN'T cross the dateline, and all works well. THANKS!!

Now that we are back in civilization, I have searched the forum and found nothing anyone else has posted on this issue, so I started testing, with the latest version of GE2KAP, just downloaded today (9.4.25). GoogleEarth version is 6.1.0.5001

My primary chart program is Maxsea 10.3.2.1. When I load a chart that was created across the dateline in Maxsea, it gives an error and won't show that chart. The error window says MT7 - Unknown Error

I thought OpenCPN had the same issue, but I have just upgraded to 3.0.2, and it does display the test chart OK. So maybe it is just a Maxsea issue now.

But it may be a solvable Maxsea issue... as I have another KAP file (NZ charts) that displays the same general area, crossing the dateline, and Maxsea does OK with it.

Would you be interested in me emailing you the 2 KAP files I have to see what the difference might be?

Thanks,
Sherry s/v Soggy Paws, in Fiji
