First Alantic Tropical Storm?

It appears that the news media is doing a tropical storm dance a little early.

Heads up, for those leaving the east coast of the US!

The intensity models show it getting up to 58 knots before weakening.

And then there's TS Aleta in the eastern Pacific. Reving up early this year!

on pacific side--aletta is dead and b is going to go to shore as a td or ts with 45 kt winds, south of me....is a frighteningly early start for a stormy season.....

Thursday

The epic adventure has begun. This morning, my two sons and their grandfather left New York harbor on the youngest son's 26ft sailboat headed for Savannah. They estimate it will take one to two weeks (depending on weather) to cover the 750 nautical miles. Now, that's an adventure!

Yesterday:

The boys and grandpa are doing fine. Last night the great adventure almost turned into a disaster. The weather went from perfect to terrible in a period of 12 hours resulting in a rescue by the coast guard at midnight. The boat took a beating and will be evaluated this morning for damage. I'll post more info later after everyone has had a chance to get some rest and digest the events which transpired. Again, everyone is safe and sound.

Don't know any details but am TOTALLY gassed that all hands are safe. Hopefully they can continue their journey.

This just in:

A lot of good news today. First, Michael, Stephen and Grandpa are all doing very well. Nobody was injured and spirits are high. Second, the boat is in better shape then they thought it would be. Third, the Coast Guard will not be charging any infractions (more on this in a minute). And, fourth, the show will go on. They are going to continue the trip but plan on staying in the inter-coastal instead of doing big blue. They will have to sail the rest of the NJ coast until they can duck into Deleware bay and take the inter-coastal the rest of the way after they spend a couple more days in Atlantic City to rest up.

Well NWS goes to TS map each May the 15th. And it IS there!

So it is not the media, it is the wx.
