Chart plotter question

Wow, all this is pretty confusing and expensive! My boat will have old 1999 electronics. To start I am thinking of getting Navionics+ on my iPad. Does anyone know if I can use the maps on the iPad and a PC tablet too?

Then I am looking into a MFD and radar. I like the idea of forward sonar along with down and side view but it appears Garmin is the only product with forward sonar. Am I correct? I am hoping to upgrade at the end of the season.
Thanks!
Scott
