If you haven't already, check out Active Captain. You'll get lots more first hand advice. We use it in addition to published guides and charts to do our trip planning and then, again, during the trip to ferret out details about specific destinations in real time.

Before you head East from either Block or Narragansett Bay, read the section in Eldredge's about lining up the currents in Rhode Island Sound and Buzzard's Bay. It will speed up your trip big time.

I'll second Mystic. The museum is a lot of fun and afterwards there is a great seafood restaurant right next to the draw bridge on the way out that you can take your dinghy to. Make reservations though it gets crowded fast but the scallops are worth it!!!

I think the other posters have pretty well covered the waterfront. But I would like to talk more about Mystic Seaport. It is a little expensive to dock there- $4.50 per foot for non members. But with that price comes admission to the Seaport which is great.

If you hang out on your boat, museum visitors will stop by to chat during the day.

But the really magical thing is to walk around after it closes to visitors. You get the feeling that you are in an 18th century whaling port.
