Let's see your Foredeck, Anchor Rollers, & Windlasses!

I'm soon to be getting my ground tackle systems in order, but my boat has no anchor roller set up or windlass. I'm curious to see what everyone is working with on their sailboats, as I need ideas and tips!

I'm not sure if this has been a thread before, but pictures of your foredeck with your anchor roller and windlass would be excellent!

Say what boat size(length, displacement), anchor and windlass choice too so any future readers can get some insight too!

Now let's see them!! (:

Okay, I'll go. What it looked like before
and what it looks like now.

Catalina 30, 25 pound CQR.

Found a picture of the windlass. It's just
a simple vertical axis.

Nice! Looks good and you fixed the glass on the bow too! Question, is the windlass motor in that deck anchor locker or inside the cabin?

I had a friend that fabricates custom pieces on private aircraft make this roller for me. He copied the old aluminum bow casting with mooring chocks into a stainless one and incorporated the bow roller into it. The anchor is a 22 lb Bruce, the boat is a 1988 C&C 30 Mk II.

Still the original setup on my 32', 7 ton sloop.

Windlass exists only in my dreams.

It's a manual windlass.

Re: Let's see your Foredeck, Anchor Rollers, & Windlasses!

Boat 34' 15,000 lbs.. Simpson Lawrence 555 manual windlass. Chain 3/8" BBB. Manson Supreme 45 lb anchor.

Dont forget to consider a VERY strong chain stopper of some sort. I use a chain hook shackled to a hard point. Good commercially available stoppers (Maxwell?) are also available.

Re: Let's see your Foredeck, Anchor Rollers, & Windlasses!

I started a thread some time back about my Bristol 35.5 foredeck arrangement with pics. Still have not made any changes, but getting my thoughts more clear. I will swap out the 35 CQR for a 45 Mantus. I bought a used two speed manual windlass that I would have to mount on deck, but these seem to have some (potential) reliability issues so I think I will stick with my single speed manual. Current plan to mount it aft in the anchor well, forepeak below is divided in half lengthwise, chain dropping to starboard side with an additional chain/nylon rode thru a separate chainpipe on the port side for a secondary anchor- likely Fortress.

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...nt-133591.html

Additional strike against on-deck windlass mount is location of planned inner forestay. Have a padeye already on deck, just aft of well. Mounting windlass aft of it makes chain fall into forward cabin with tubing to carry it forward interfering with cabinetry to forepeak. Mounting it all the way forward and putting the padeye aft makes the forestay angle less than ideal. Considered bolting the padeye to the top of the windlass, as it will be securely mounted, but decided (for now) that hidden is best.

Re: Let's see your Foredeck, Anchor Rollers, & Windlasses!

Here's what we ended up doing with our Formosa 51. Ciipper bows do present a challenge.

It was fabricated by a metal shop at Bert Jabins' Yacht Yard in Annapolis back in 2010.

When we purchased Beausoleil in 2006, she had two anchor rollers up on the pulpit platform, and they only would accommodate a 45lb CQR, or perhaps a Delta. After upgrading to a 80lb Manson Supreme main anchor and a Fortress Guardian G-55 as a backup, we had to do this. The Manson self-launches like a charm. The only drawback is that when using the Manson's "rock slot", I have to help it over the roller...

You have a very similar bow as me, the toe rail goes to a fairlead all the way up. I'm going to have to put a triangle plate similar to yours.

Thanks for the pictures yall, keep them coming!
