Best Windlass Setup for a Cat?

I'm looking for ideas and or experience for the best way to setup a windlass for a cat where the chain runs under the catwalk over rollers from the anchor which is under the front beam. But I also want to be able to tail a line from a vertical capstan which is above deck level. So to recap, chain goes into chain locker from under deck level, but vertical capstan protrudes above deck level. I hope that makes sense, as it seems to be the best of both worlds re safety with chain being below catwalk, but still be able to tail a dockline.

Any ideas on how to do that, as I have not seen it on any boats yet.

You are in Sydney - have a look at a 1160 or 1250 (seawind) set up. Chain goes into locker but anchor winch is accessible by opening locker cover and capstan can be accessed for use for various mast hauling jobs. Worth a look?

Thanx Factor, absolutely worth a look. I've looked at the 1250 setup before, just can't remember details. I'll head down dock at Annandale to check it again.

Ususally (I think) the capstan stays down in the anchor well, below the foredeck level, so the locker lid covers it. Which is OK for mast work via block with vertical capstan or directly onto horizontal capstan, but my question is how to set up the windlass so the vertical capstan stays above deck level so we can tail the line in a variety of angles forward.

It's sort of a geometry problem with the chain approach angle & height of windlass so capstan can be above foredeck level and anchor locker lid is split, or has a round spot on the edge to fit around capstan.

Am I being a pioneer with this one? Anyone seen this done before?
