I just happened to grab the manual last week, because we have one on the Sabre 22 we use as a training boat at the RPYC.

Stu, I find that pretty convincing (assuming,of course, that the quote is from an Enduro manual (just joking...)).

It makes sense to me, since I had found in my limited exposure to the Enduros in Fiji that the ignition system was a weak link. The idea of the Enduro was, I believe, not to perpetuate old technology but to provide a reliable motor for third world markets. The CDI units have excellent reliability in my experience. In fact, I think they were the pivotal development in making reliable 2-stroke engines. When I got my first one I could not believe how the spark plug life increased!

Anyhow, thanks to those who tried to answer my query.

I was double checking to confirm and Google gave me an earlier thread about problems with the CDI on a 15HP Yamaha Enduro:

I didn't mean to imply that Enduros used magnetos, I was simply saying that their design and parts have not changed for many years - so whatever was being used in Fiji was probably the same as today.
