Outboard question

Hey everybody! I got a 6hp mercury 4 stroke that's about a 2008ish. It's idling high with the idle screw backed off all the way, lacking power and pulsing if that makes sense. Last week I took the carb apart and cleaned it, float and needle valve appear to be working normally. Cleaned out the gas tank and filled with brand new Pemex Magna. I don't think they're adding ethanol here, at least I've never smelled it. So what gives? I've never had this much trouble getting this little motor to do what it's supposed to.

Cheers

Re: Outboard question

You may have to adjust the screws on the control wires...…..

Re: Outboard question

Leak somewhere between the carb and the cylinder letting air in, thereby not metering the air to fuel ratio and causing the high idle and erratic behavior. You can test for this by spraying starting fluid near the intake and see if that make the rpms go up.

You may have caused this when you rebuilt the carb. Don't worry, it's a common mistake.
