Re: Life Barrel - Personal Life Raft/Immersion Suit

And it's better than a survival suit because ???

I wonder:
- is it gonna stay upright?
- any float fisherman will tell you your legs are gonna get cold.
- it would be nice to have your arms inside the barrel part of the time...

But...
- maybe you could mount fins on the pants
- install a mast and sail on top
- give it a canoe shape.
- install a feeding tube with beans and a jet propulsion exhaust tube.

Re: Life Barrel - Personal Life Raft/Immersion Suit

I would worry about it filling with water and drowning. The concept is interesting but I'd want to see a bunch of tests in severve weather, and ideally some sort of folding system to make it more compact. Prehaps a selfdraining mode for big waves.

Re: Life Barrel - Personal Life Raft/Immersion Suit

Even with a bilge pump down at the feet, it is going to get pretty rotten down there after a day or two of bodily fluids and solids collection.

I suppose you could let a bunch of sea water in for a rinse followed by a pump out. Warm water only.

I wonder if being curled up inside an actual barrel would be better?

Life Barrel?

Not for me. That design looks like shark bait. And for all the other reasons mentioned it looks like a hoax. Goofy, wacky, ill conceived.

BUT, if you want some kind of "survival barrel" to use, I think I would prefer the TURTLE submarine design as shown below. It comes with a method of propulsion and more room inside.

If it will also fry chicken like Popeye's, I would be interested.

If that became the new uniform of the NFL and NHL I think the concussion problem is over. Right product, wrong market.

Re: Life Barrel - Personal Life Raft/Immersion Suit

its a portable "confined space"

its ventilation is well above the users head, carbon dioxide is heavier than oxygen.

after a short time, the user will be dead from asphyxiation.
