Re: How would you mount a figurehead to the bow?

I had the Welsh Griffin (dragon) on my last boat, because she was built in Wales. It was a great talking point.
I’m planning to fix Britannia on Britannia, my new Brigantine schooner, (provided my wife approves—I haven’t told her yet).
They really need to be on a clipper bow with a bowsprit and look weird on a modern bow.

Re: How would you mount a figurehead to the bow?

Ha ha. Thanks for the input. All of them were a blast to read and I clicked the "thanks" button for everyone's post. I start throwing around ideas in the Fall to get a game plan for next Spring's to-do list.

So I have:

1. Paint the bottom;
2. Paint/non-skid the top;
3. Buy new mainsail
4. ??????? to make her look more salty
5. Profit

Already have a pirate flag, and I was deciding what to pair it with, a small figurehead or couple of those cool canons they display at the boat show(one at the bow & one at the stern). I like the canons, but some of the boaters near me can be soo sensitive

Re: How would you mount a figurehead to the bow?

In all honesty, the more experienced the yachtie the less nautical "stuff" aboard. No canon, no Pirate flag, no silly captains hat, no bunting, no plastic parrot etc. As soon as someone is seen in a novelty captains hat, the rest of the yachting world knows they are a noob.

So, the same will go for a boat that you may have worked on. If your trying to make some dosh out of the boat- don't fill her up with nautical novelties. Make her look like the manufacture did. That will show value- not novelty items.

Not trying to burst your bubble. Just trying to fatten your wallet ;-) You owe me a beer now.

Oh gosh. Suddenly it's a gun thread.

Pirate flag + canons + figurehead + Pearson 300 isn't going to make you look "salty."

"Cartoonish" might be a better descriptor.

I've though there was money to be made selling a really nice inflatable FH. You could puff her up and strap her on when you arrived in port. The only inflatables I could find were at Spencer Gifts and head shops. They didn't look very nautical.
