Did You Name Your Dinghy?

one dinghy/mothership combo I saw was Bedouin/Camel dung.

My boat is a trailer sailor named "Thulani". The dinghy is "Toolani". Just bought a new tow vehicle and considering custom plates "Towlani".

I have a 7.5 ft. Livingston I bought in Seattle. The Dink was named "Crumb" which I retained. i think the Mothership was called "Bread & Butter"

Our dink's name is informal... Our westies are named Belle and Beau, but referred to as BelliBo since they are always together. The dink is now called BelliBoat... and they love getting in it to do some shore side bellibiz... if you get my drift.

Never got into naming the dinghy. Maybe if my better half wants to name it something we will, but to me it's just "the dinghy". Our life jackets and harnesses have our ship's name on them.

You should make the outboard and dinghy totally un-stealable though. Beyond locking it up, spray paint it bright pink with yellow spots or something. If you have a wood transom, get your Dremmel with router kit and write the registration number in or something of that sort.

Use big chains, big locks, and keep it away from the jerk at the dinghy dock with a cable full of meat cutters.

In Victoria, Australia we have to put a "T"and then the vessels rego or pay rego as a power boat. My folder boat tender is called "origami" and the nesting dingy is "skitzo"

Heading out of the Salt Pond at Block Island a few years ago, the dingy being dragged by the boat in front of us was "W8 4 Me" I thought it was cute.

A dinghy needs a name to have mana. A name gives it life and seperates it from other dinghies. If you want your dinghy to carry you safely and reliably across the waters then you must give it a name. Otherwise it's just a dinghy.

While cruising around northern Vancouver Island a few years ago we met some folks on a boat named "Potato Caboose" hailing from Boise, Idaho. Their dinghy was named "Tator Tot". We understand they have since moved to Shilshole Marina in Seattle.

Our big boat is "Yachtsman's Dream" and we will soon be labeling our dinghy as "Yachtsman's Dinghy" as compromise between having a name that ties it directly to the mother boat and having one so far removed that no one can make the connection.

Named the dinghy "Deep Doo Doo" as that is usually what I am in when it comes around time to use it.
