Deck Hatches Are Deck Hardware, Right ? Advice, Please !

Hello,

This seems like the correct forum...!

The boat I (believe) we are about to purchase is currently in the Chesapeake, and we live in Toronto. She'll get here eventually.

She needs new deck hatches. So far we've seen Atkins Hoyle online, but then I remembered - the Forum, ask around!

Can anyone recommend a Chesapeake firm for good products (hatches) and reasonable prices? Maybe we should have the work done while still in Maryland.

Similarly, is there any company in Toronto you would like to suggest?

Thanks in advance.
(More questions certain to be posted in threads all over this site, to be sure.)

Thanks rebel

I knew people would start replying pretty quickly, I'm never disappointed in this forum.
Will look into the link you sent right now.

Hi benet,

Annapolis! Used would be fine, I should think. Got a lead?

Thanks,

Yog

Do you need new hatches or just the plastic replaced? Maritime Plastics in Annapolis will refinish hatches and replace the plastic.

I have used maririme plastics and they are very good, and definitely not as much as buying new hatches, have you looked at what is available at Baconsails, they usually have a pretty good selection, though it does vary as to inventory,

Ron & Speciald,

We're just starting so haven't tried anyone yet. Replacing the plastic may be an option, and a good one.

Great tips, much appreciated.

Notch the corners out of a piece of 1/8th aluminium and have a shop with a brake bend two light kinks across it for stiffness and four 90's on the edges, then weld the corners up, and you have far better hatches than you can buy, for a fraction the price.
