Spreader Corrosion

I have a question about aluminum spreaders on my sail boat. Q: Is there a downside to getting your spreaders powder coated? My son knows someone who does it professionally and will do it for about $60 dollars each. Need to know if this could bite me in the future. Any comments?

re: Spreader Corrosion

I do Spreaders paint job 2 years ago in Trinidad, sodablast to bare aluminium, and Awlgrip stuff , until today holding very well, no bubles or corrosion isues.
You mean 60 $ just for the powder coating? what about the labour to clean and sand and prep the spreaders ?
Cheers.

re: Spreader Corrosion

From quick perusal of wiki which is sometimes significantly correct, I'd suggest checking what material and method the alumium is going to be prepped with. IIRC the powdercoat won't protect the inside, either.

As far as I know that was the price with them prepping and coating...I mean hey I had to have my wife go up and take them down!
