Snatch Blocks

I need two snatch blocks. The least expensive seem to be Garhauer.
The soft snatch blocks also seem to be quite expensive given their lack of sheaves and shackles. What is the least expensive of the soft snap shackles on the market?
Is Garhauer going to be a better buy over the soft shackles on the market?
Has anyone adapted a soft shackle or made their own snatch blocks?

I am not sure I follow. Soft shackles are not snatch blocks, are not snap blocks. What are you looking for?

The only no-moving-parts snatch blocks I know of are made by Colligo. If you want to go really economical, thread a low-friction ring onto whatever line beforehand, then lash that down as needed with a piece of line. If that's not an option, the cheapest option is one of the ghetto snatch blocks sold at climbing shops. Within my memory they were less than $20, simple, and reliable.
One last thing to try is placing a low friction ring edgewise on the line in question, then threading a soft shackle or lashing through the center hole, and hoping the sheet (or whatever) doesn't jump the rails and wind up riding on the soft shackle alone.

Antal makes low friction snatch blocks. I have 2. Wouldn't advise them unless your using dyneema.

garhauer makes great stuff. I have used their snatch blocks for years. I would get them - just because they cost less doesnt mean they are cheapo. They are built extremely well.

I have no commercial interest in them whatever. Just like their equipment.

What are you talking about?

What is the purpose of the device you are talking about?

(Sorry, no illustration of a "soft snap shackle" or "soft snatch block" - no such things.)

My apologies for not reading my post carefully before submitting it. I am looking for soft snatch blocks. My first 2 references to soft "shackles" ought to read "soft blocks". I did want to know if anyone who had modified a soft shackle to make some kind of soft block.

The only thing I can think of would be the antal dynablock. But that's really just a snatch block with a dyneema attachment. A lot like the Harken T2 blocks, or the Karver in blocks.

There is no such thing as a soft snatch block. Something is wrong with your choice of words. Do you want a snatch block with a dyneema tie down ? Like this ?

Yes, using a dyneema, or similar tie down rather than a metal shackle.
But I thought the term "soft snatch block" was used when there are no moving parts for the "block". That is where a synthetic or alum. surface is used rather than a sheave and a dyneema line is somehow used as a gate for the sheet.

If you had a larger low friction ring, like the one in your pic (or a similar material) and bent it into a horse-shoe shape it could be fastened with a modified dyneema soft shackle

Ah, that looks great - I ought to have done a better search but for some reason Antal did not show up.

I suspect that some enterprising CF member may have come up with a DIY alternative. It looks very neat and simple.

Now I will go to look for the price.
