Need Help Identifying This Please

I need some help.. I need to replace... Exactly my problem

I don't know what its called. It came with the boat I've been calling it a swivel block ...

People have suggested its a Friction Sheave, but that looks nothing like ours did.

I've attached a picture, can anyone please help out ? I would be very grateful.

Re: Need Help Identifying This Please

Looks like a snatch block, but is there something else special about it?
Actually, I can't tell, does the cheek open so you can put it on without threading the line from the end?

Hi Thanks

The cheek doesn't open, the block stayed on the line full time as it was used for our gennaker/Parasailor sail

I think you had it right the first time - swivel block.
Looks much like a Schaeffer, but the swivel mechanism appears to be different.
I don't like the carabiner connecting it to the deck fitting - think I would be inclined to connect it direct, without the 'biner.

Replacement for this unit should not be at all difficult to find.

Swivel snatch block but agree with the rest. Should not have a carbiner style attachment point but a snap shackle. Should be releaseable under a load if using it to fly a chute.
Unless it's a permanant deck block such as for a set genoa fairlead.

Swivel block but that clip is not standard and looks very undersized depending on the use.

Upper furling block for a furling headsail. Should be a lower swivel somewhere. As others have said, put a proper shackle of some kind on it.

Re: Need Help Identifying This Please

Found out it's part of a facnor fx 12000 with a facnor sb snatch 2-1 block.

Now trying to locate it..

But some of you missed the point it isn't about the Wichard RATED hook that attaches the line to the boat when we aren't flying our Parasailor.

Thanks anyway Guys,

Exactly my thought. I would expect it to be used on a spinnaker staysail so that it could be hoisted quickly, unfurled, and then struck quickly.

So...thats a halyard? And the whole block goes up with the head of the sail?

I suggest you replace it with just a shackle. The other end (tail) of the halyard should go to a winch. You'll be able to haul up the sail faster, then winch it home. IMHO, having a block up there is asking for trouble.

This is required equipment for the luff tension required on a big code zero with a torsion line for the furler.
