Hood 707SL furler... any experience?

So our "new to us" boat has a Hood continuous line furler (810 Seafurl LD) which I am not too thrilled about... I gather these are really only "furlers" and you can't use them to partially reef the headsail as they tend to slip under heavier conditions, just when you don't want them to.

Based on postings here I gathered I could get a good deal on an upgrade from Hood and they have offered me a pretty good price on a full 707SL furling system, single line, reef and furl.

My question is if this is a good piece of kit or not? It will be on a Gulf 32', so I'll be near the upper end of the range for that product (for up to 33' according to their literature).

I'd like to get a better furling system on there sooner rather than later, and this seems like a good deal, but I don't want to buy something I'll need to upgrade again in only a few years.

Any experience with these anyone?

We also considered a trade in with Hood on an old fuller. It's like 50% off retail. But we couldn't find anyone that recommended them, or that had a good experience with them. We went with Schafer, and we are delighted with the change.

Hood yacht systems customer's that currently own a line drive (LD) furling system, can easily upgrade to a single line (SL) system.
The drive unit assembly is the only part that needs to be purchased to obtain a single line system.
The extrusions and the halyard swivel remain on your headstay, you do not need to buy these parts.
The SL was designed as an upgrade to the LD system, giving the owner reefing capability.
The SL system has stainless bearings thus increasing durability.

Same situation for me. I decided to go with a brand with more recommendations and reviews.

Simplicity and cost have lead me to taking their deal (I just don't know enough about what I want on this boat yet to swallow $2k-$3k, so going to live with the upgrade special for a few years and then see), as I really don't want to fight this double line furling system much, sounds a bit hazardous.

It will probably not be until spring that I get the 707SL installed but will post my (completely without comparison) review when I do.

I converted my LD915 to SL900 and couldn't be happier. I also lifted the entire assembly off the plastic donut and supported it on ProFurl type support tangs. Makes a world of difference.
