Converting Hank-on Sails to Furling Sails

I'm told that you need to have a foam pad sewn into the luff to have the sail furl nicely.

True? Sailmaker wants $450 for this mod.

Whats this look like for soo much money?

If needed can I do it myself?

Uv materiel added to the leach to protect it from the sun, when asked he said it's a peal and stick. I know I need this.

Wants $275

How can I do this myself?
