I have used two different types of 80lb test fishing line . . . One is green and a bit rough, that's seems the more common one, but the other is a white/translucent mono filament line that is rather nicer to with.

I use the translucent stuff for sewing and whipping and the green stuff for building fuses and small lashings

I don't wax it, I've never really seen the point, at least not for dyneema. The point of the wax is to help make it slide easier (but dyneema is slippier than the wax), and to help meld the strands together (but dyneema is braided so it won't meld).

I use 50lb dyneema fishing line for most things, but also carry some 1mm to make very small soft shackles, some whippings, fancy knot work, or sometimes it is just what comes easier to hand.

Yeah, after handling dyneema and amsteel, was surprised how rough this stuff is, not slippery at all. Bought it off amazon. It is 80Lb. 7 strand dyneema braid with a single gore strand not sure what that single goretex would do. The roughness is no big deal, just found it unusual and first thing I thought when I felt it was that I should run a little wax on it. I was wondering about any sawing action while the line works. I realize the question of wax ( and coloring the line) is probably a silly one, but I've asked what I thought were silly questions before and gotten surprise answers from you pros. The fishing line is such a great idea, made for the wet elements, strong, and cheap compared to buying whipping line.

Right now my bosuns bag is a box, full of fids and lighters, tape, whipping twine, etc. Each day I learn about splices, I add something to my box that I hope makes my splices better. Or I break some cheep tool that was touted to make my splicing easier.

I just added the Marlinspike Sailor to my amazon wish list ( I thought I had it but cannot find the darn thing)and was wondering what your favorite tool is, or what you think has been of most value creating the perfect clean splice, knots and such.
