San Juan 28 head operation

Hi All,

Please resist the urge to "baste" this potential 1st time sailboat owner and his simple questions. The largest boat I have ever sailed was a Catalina 27 with buckets as porta-potti's. The San Juan 28 I'm checking out Friday has the original head in place and works. problem is... I don't have a clue how to use it, pump out, big valves etc.. Anyone feel like trying to walk me through it? Thanks.

Dave

Re: San Juan 28 head operation

plenty of info out there.

A resonable overview of what system you may find in the boat:
The West Advisor: Heads Holding Tanks

How to use it? Simple answer is grab the handle and pump.

The real answer is that it depends on what type of system you have. If it's overboard only, you don't unless you're where it's legal. Tank? Macerator? Salt water flush? You really need to look at what you have and find out.
