Pur power survivor 40E

We have been trying to remove the end cap to the membrane housing to replace the membrane. We have tried the wrapped channel locks. It will not budge. This is a rebuilt unit we bought. We are getting too much salt in the water and started by flushing with alkaline solution. The water flow improved, but salinity is high. So, we are wanting to replace the membrane and end cap won't budge. Pls help. We tried looking for posts in this section, but search disappears when I try to click on it. Thanks!!!

Re: Pur power survivor 40E

I watched a tech use compressed air into the cylinder to loosen up an end cap once.

Sorry, no direct knowledge of this watermaker but maybe can help with the search. The Google Search is better on CF generally, but it can be hard / impossible to use from phone/tablet because the drop down menu disappears.

Follow this link for a search on "power survivor 40e membrane":
Google Custom Search
... and you can modify your searches from the window that opens as needed.

There appears to be a (one hour) video here if you have good internet (500mb):
Video Viewing Instructions

That might steer you right way on disassembly.

Try sticking unit in freezer overnight. MAKE SURE THERE IS NO WATER IN IT! Then try heating cap with torch. DONT BURN IT JUST HEAT IT!

I haven’t tried this myself, but it’s worth a shot.

With the circlip removed from one end, turn on the motor and let pressurized water push the end fitting out

Re: Pur power survivor 40E

You know we thought about that too. We don't want to ruin anything on the end cap. We wrote ishipaco. He responded with a video. We dl, but keep getting unknown error. It won't play. We will just keep trying. Thanks.

Re: Pur power survivor 40E

To all the guys responding to our problem. We took hunch after sailmonkey suggested it too and it worked!! Had removed snap ring, turned it on, it popped right out. So, now you know how you can easily remove the membrane cap from the membrane housing in a pur powersurvivor 40E.
In removing the membrane we have noticed the front membrane seal was missing. We replaced with new membrane that has seal on front and no seal on back. Hope this works.

Re: Pur power survivor 40E

Good to know you solved your problem. I have a Pur PowerSurvivor 40E as well, which I took off my my boat a while back when I sold it. After 64 hours use it had all seals, o rings and oil changed and hasn't been used since, as I am boat less atm but looking.
If you are interested in buying it as a replacement or as replacement parts please email me.
Thanks
